Overview:
In an age of team
management and collaboration, leadership is an essential skill that needs to be
uncovered and developed, as well as applied. As the workplace is characterized
by global diversity, the excitement that brings is punctuated by an understanding
of the dimensions for successful management. This course encourages individuals
to bring their unique background, experiences, and perceptions to the important
discussion of managerial skill development. This course uses a variety of
experiential approaches to allow managers an opportunity to enhance their
managerial effectiveness. Participants will be expected to increase not only
their interpersonal competency, but also their knowledge and understanding of
the theory and research underlying the impact of managerial skills on the
organization. The course develops participants' abilities to anticipate and
assess global trends and innovations, harness resources to implement policy,
and utilize data to assess policy impact at the institutional, system, national
and multi-national (global) levels.
Competency Development:
A competency is the capability to apply or use a set of related knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform "critical work functions" or tasks in a defined work setting
This course will endeavour to refine the following competencies: problem-solving, critical thinking, data analysis, decision-making, synthesis:
- Demonstrate appropriate ethical, economical, social and environmental considerations in decision-making processes; to develop and implement sustainable and ethical business solutions.
- Demonstrate problem solving/Analysis: individually and within a group identify relevant business problems; evaluate the credibility, accuracy and reliability of information derived from a variety of sources; construct and communicate evidence-based decisions and conclusions.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills when gathering, analyzing and evaluating information in the process of decision-making.
